Whose's Turn Is It ?

03/14/08 | by Laure [mail] | Categories: Opinionation

Just talking to people and listening to what is going on in their lives I have found that what they miss most are phone calls from their children.

I speak with my daughter probably 2-5 times a day. She even sent me a phone so I could talk to her without it costing a fortune. I don’t talk to my son as frequently but I cannot remember a month going by and not hearing from him. They still call me for advice and ignore it, but getting asked is nice. The grandkids call and most of the time I don’t understand a damn thing they are telling me, but I still get the call. They know who I am and actually want to see me.

Why would you not call your parents short of something so terrible that you are estranged?
If that is the case, I believe that we all will face judgment of some kind at the end and what you did, will be dealt with then.

My daughter and I once were so mad at each other that we didn’t speak for almost a year. I can tell you from personal experience that will never happen again.

We always think there will be another day to do something.
We rarely remember those who are important in our lives.
Hell, it’s pretty bad when you forget who gave you a life.

I often think to myself: “I wish it would have been different". Both my parents have passed on and I would like to believe that although not here, they can still see how I turned out and the things in my life they could boast about.

Do me a favor, pick up the phone and call your parent or parents. Tell them you love them and thank them for everything they did. I would like to think if you did that, the world would have once less lonely parent.

Don’t play this phone game like some I know;
Whose turn is it? It’s your turn.
Whose turn do you think it is?
My turn? …. I gave you a call last year.
Who’s the busiest of us all? I am, so you call me.
Oops: I’ll wait for the next “whose turn” to start- sorry! …
Screw whose turn it is to call, just call and stop keeping track.

I tend to save all sorts of things and and this is one of them……

DAYS RECORD
Is anybody happier, because you passed their way?
Will someone remember that you spoke to them today?

The day is almost over, and its toiling time is through;
Is there anyone to utter now a kindly word of you?
Can you say tonight in parting, with the day that’s slipping fast?
That you helped a single person of the many that you passed?
Is a single heart rejoicing, over what you did or said?
Does the person whose hopes were fading, now with courage look ahead?
Did you waste the day, or lose it?
Was it well or sorely spent?
Did you leave a trail of kindness, or a scar of discontent?
As you close your eyes in slumber, do you think that god will say?
“You have earned one more tomorrow by the work you did today?”
